It's been awhile....

It has been awhile since we have posted, things have been fairly calm since the grape incident. Both of the boys ended up having to wear cones of shame which was really exciting. Thankfully all the blood work came back okay at their 3 week appointment. I have not bought grapes since that fateful day.... I walk past them every time I go to the store but for some reason I just can't bring myself to buy any....

Over spring break we went to the coast with my family which was a lot of fun. It was a long weekend full of fun - highlights include eating fresh crab, flying kites on the beach, whale watching and dragging the kids out on family adventures in all kinds of weather. After tide pooling at Myers beach in the pouring down rain it will be a miracle if the kids ever want to go to the coast again! After about 30 minutes of tears, complaints and soaking wet clothes we realized that it might not be the most appropriate weather to be out exploring the beach in. If anything the kids built lots of character that day! Just a side note, Owen was sleeping in the car with Brian and Tony while the rest of us were soaked. We had enough sense not to drag him out.....

We had a busy Easter trying to spend time will both of our families. It was a wonderful day but we were exhausted at the end. It was a classic Klamath Falls Easter, complete with snow on the ground.

Owens first stroller ride without his car seat.

He is still doesn't like wearing a bib.

He hasn't figured out how to jump in his Johnny Jump-up, he just spins in circles. We have re-named it Sammy Spinner.

Cone of Shame

Last week our mammals decided that it was too quiet around the house and decided to have a little fun. I had grapes drying on the counter and Sy decided to get a snack for Harley and himself, though I am sure that Har was egging him on. I had just gone shopping that morning so the boys were able to eat at least 1.5 pounds of grapes, stems and all. It turns out that grapes are extremely toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure. Needless to say it was an exciting trip to the vet with the two dogs and Owen in tow. The boys had to stay at the vets for 48 hours but thankfully they are both okay.

Harley then proceeded to worry the spot that they gave him the IV so we were back at the vet on Monday. This time Harley came home with the "Collar of Shame." Thankfully this week has been quiet, but then again it would be because Brian is back home.

The one good thing is that Owen laughed in entire way to the vet. Owen usually cries the entire time he is in the car so this was a wonderful change. I might have to start bringing the boys with us more often.....

Har helping himself to the dog food a few days before the grape incident.

The cone of shame - thankfully they have improved from the lampshade version....

Har couldn't get out the dog door so he would stick his head out and bark.

Rice Cereal

Owen has not been sleeping well (waking up 5-6 times a night) so our pediatrician recommended that we start giving him rice cereal. Being a first time parent I had wonderful ideas that he would love the cereal immediately, eat a few tablespoons before bed and sleep for 4-5 hours. I now realize how foolish I was! Owen was not impressed, you would have though that I was giving him medicine. Granted he was a little suspicious of me anyways because I gave him prune juice earlier in the day because he had some digestive issues. After a few spoonfuls I waved the white flag and gave up on my dreams of a good night sleep.

Day two went a little better. He did not scrunch up his face near as much but I am still not sure if he actually swallowed any! I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will decide he likes it and that it will help him sleep for longer than a two hour stretch!

He is not impressed with the situation.

At least playing with the spoon was fun!

Round 2 - Mom won!

I think more made it on him than in him...

Showing off his feet.

Don't we all wish we were this flexible!

Watching the Olympics, maybe he will be a downhill skier!

Sleeping like a baby....

Whoever decided that the term sleeping like a baby was a good way to describe a good night sleep obviously never had children or was able to sleep through his children waking up throughout the night. Owen has been consistently waking up every two to three hours at night for the last few months. It feels like I am napping through the night instead of sleeping. The last two nights he has slept for more than 4 hours in a row and I am beginning to feel human again. Hopefully this trend will continue, though I am sure I am jinxing it.

Owen seems to continue to change daily and is growing out of his clothes at an alarming rate. I wish they had tall sizes for babies. It seems like most of his pants fall off his hips and are barely long enough. The poor kid may have to start a fashion trend of wearing high water pants....

This weekend was full of birthday parties celebrating Brian's 30th. It was a fun weekend but I think that we are ready to get back to normal life!

It snowed about a month ago and Owen went on his first snowy walk through the park.

Poor Harley had huge snowballs stuck to him after our walk.

Brian had a fun time removing the snow.

Owen's first time in a highchair. He wasn't to sure about it at first but it was nice to be able to eat dinner without holding him!

Hello Again!

It seemed like our terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week extended through December and into January. Every time either Brian or I started to get better the other one would get sick. Thankfully Owen survived with only a slight cold.

Owen's first Christmas was very different than I had imagined. The plan was to spend Christmas Eve with my family going to church then dinner and open gifts at my Grams. We would spend Christmas morning at our house, then Christmas dinner at Brian's parents. Poor Brian came down with the stomach flu on Christmas Eve and was out for the count. Unfortunately most of my family has the same stomach bug so we cancelled dinner and rescheduled for the weekend. Owen and I met my mom, Gram, niece Madeline and brother -in-law Tony for the candle light service at church and then I came home and made spaghetti for dinner. I wasn't sure what to make for dinner since the last 29 years I had ham and scalloped potatoes on Christmas Eve. It was the first Christmas Eve that my family did not spend together. We usually take up 2 rows at church and this year be barely filled half. Brian was feeling better on Christmas day but then I came down with the bug and we missed Christmas with his family. Thankfully we were able to get it together enough to open gifts for Owen by the afternoon. We ended up celebrating with our families a few days later, in the end it all worked out nicely.

In the mean time Brian's car broke down a few more times and we came to the realization that it was time for a new car. Thankfully we were able to find a good deal on a volvo and we now both have reliable transportation. It was so nice not having a car payment but all good things come to an end.

Unfortunately New Years was a repeat of Christmas but with me getting sick fist. Thankfully we are now both on the mend after fighting a killer cold for the last few weeks. Hopefully this will continue and we can get back to normal life.

Owen is lots of fun lately. He loves being read to and had a few favorite toys. He laughs out loud often and loves to put his hands and feet into his mouth. He also recently discovered his tongue and has rolled over.

Here a few updated pictures. Hopefully we will post more often now that we are feeling human again.
